7 Deadly Sins - Gluttonyby ~elestrial

She fills herself with what holds no weight.

_{Made for a project at school on the 7 Deadly Sins. This is the third of the 7-part series. I apologize for the material there in the bottom corner, that's actually a part of Envy. These pictures actually go together in one long picture (42 inches long)...I'm just splitting them up for submitting here.

Symbolism

The image of gluttony has become so generic and cliche that the meaning behind it has become warped. Gluttony isn't a sin of being fat, but of overconsumption. It's certainly not healthy to be overweight but not sinful. I think an alcoholic would fit more with a deadly sin than a beefy chick stuffing her face with grub. Don't get me wrong, I'm not some anti-alcohol activist - I have nothing against drinking. I just think an alcoholic fits the sin more than someone overweight.

Besides, I don't want my work to be lumped into everyone else's, I'd rather be creative and different...but at the same time producing ia strong piece.

Now that I've got that cleared up, I'll continue. I chose two models for this picture. The body was in a perfect pose, but I wanted the head to be extremely tilted back and looking desperate, with a big gaping mouth. The empty bottles on the ground speak for themselves. My main focus behind the picture was desperation and extreme overconsumption of one thing, (in this case, alcohol). The colors are brown and yellow because gluttony is a pretty gross sin in my opinion, and brownish yellow is the grossest color I could think of that would fit it.

The setting is based on the book Dante's Inferno: a dead, desolate place.

All of the seven deadly sins in my series are women because:

A) Women are thought to be more "sinful" for over hundreds of years now. Don't get all woman-activist on me for saying that, I'm a woman myself - and no, I don't believe that "women are more sinful." I think people are people; neither sex is more sinful than the other.

B) There are more women stock providers then men on deviantart. Sorry guys, but there's just not enough of you for me to use!

I'm with you, gluttony is really about overconsumption of anything really, not just food. But in fact it's pretty disgusting; and you showed it pretty well.
